BIOGRAPHY: MELISSA SAMS
Melissa L. Sams embarked on her journey in the legal field with a steadfast dedication to
making a positive impact on families facing challenging circumstances. Her remarkable
journey has been marked by excellence, advocacy, and a deep connection to her
community.
Melissa's academic journey began at High Point University in 1993, where she pursued
her passion for law. In 1997, she graduated Cum Laude, showcasing not only her
academic prowess but also her unwavering commitment to achieving excellence. This
commitment was further solidified in 2000 when she obtained her law degree from
Campbell Law School, equipping her with the knowledge and skills to navigate the
complex landscape of family law.
With a heart full of compassion and a determined spirit, Melissa honed her expertise and
chose to focus her practice primarily on family law. Her areas of practice include
collaborative law, parenting coordination, Guardian Ad Litem services, mediation, and special proceedings. Her holistic
approach to legal matters ensures that the families she works with receive comprehensive support during difficult times.
Melissa's dedication extends beyond legal expertise. She has been certified by the National Council for Behavioral Health
for mental health first aid for adults and children, a testament to her commitment to the well-being of those she serves.
She has also been certified by the NC Dispute Resolution as a mediator, showcasing her dedication to fostering productive
communication and resolution.
In 2001, Melissa embarked on her professional journey, and in April 2007, she founded Sams Law Firm, PC. Her firm
quickly gained recognition for its exceptional service, earning accolades as one of the top law firms in the southern triad by
the readers of High Point Enterprise, Archdale Trinity News, and Thomasville Times in 2019 and 2022.
Beyond her legal practice, Melissa is an active participant in the legal community, holding esteemed positions such as the
past president of the High Point Bar Association in Guilford County and the 26-H Judicial Bar. Her role as the current chair
of the social media and technology committee for the High Point Bar Association showcases her commitment to embracing
innovation for the betterment of the legal profession. As the chair of the Mittie Smith Charitable Holiday Grants
committee for the High Point Bar, she plays an instrumental role in supporting local charities that uplift High Point, NC.
Melissa's remarkable commitment to community service is evident. She presently serves as the President of the High Point
Guild of Family Services and Court Support for Families, displaying her exceptional leadership in both roles. Her influence
extends to her dedication to educational and family support initiatives. She has been an educator for programs such as
"Parenting Under 2 Roofs" and "2 Families Now," providing valuable co-parenting skills to families experiencing separation.
Additionally, her engagement with the High Point Literary League underscores her passion for literature and culture.
Today, Melissa L. Sams continues to weave together her legal expertise, compassionate approach, and community
advocacy to create a brighter future for families in need. Her legacy is a testament to the transformative power of
dedication, empathy, and unwavering commitment to her profession and her community.
BIOGRAPHY: MELISSA SAMS
Melissa L. Sams attended High Point University in 1993 and graduated Cum Laude in
1997. In 2000 she obtained her law degree from Campbell Law School. Melissa Sams
limits her practice to family law, parenting coordination, Guardian Ad Litem (court-
approved investigator), and special proceedings. She has been certified by the National
Council for Behavioral Health for mental health first aid for adults and children. Melissa
Sams has been in practice since 2001.
In April of 2007, she opened Sams Law Firm, PC. Her firm was voted best law firm in the
southern triad by the readers of High Point Enterprise, Archdale Trinity News, and
Thomasville Times in 2019. She is the co-founder of the Parenting Coordinator group of
Guilford County and has been on the Court approved Parenting Coordinator list since
2006. She was employed by the Guardian Ad Litem program in 2005 and 2006 as an
Attorney Advocate for abused and neglected children besides her active family law
practice.
Ms. Sams is active in the legal community. Ms. Sams is currently serving as president of the High Point Bar Association in
Guilford County. She is the Facebook administrator and committee chair for the technology committee of the High Point
Bar Association. In 2012, Melissa Sams revised the domestic violence section of the North Carolina Family Law Marital
Claims Deskbook, 3rd Edition. She was also committee chair for the High Point Bar Association tasked with furnishing
and decorating two-child visitation rooms at the Department of Social Services in Guilford County. Both rooms were
successfully completed and are in use today.
Ms. Sams is highly involved in her community. She was president of the Board of Trustees for The Piedmont School in
High Point, a school for children with learning differences, in 2020. Ms. Sams is actively engaged in the High Point Guild
of Family Services of the Piedmont and has served on their executive board. She has been an educator for "Parenting
Under 2 Roofs" through the Children's Home Society on multiple occasions. She also volunteers for Court Watch, NC,
and is an instructor for their course, "2Families Now," a class that teaches co-parenting skills and is required if pursuing
custody litigation. She has been a guest speaker for the Knights of Columbus, Guardian Ad Litem Program, Dahlgren
Elementary School, Wallburg Elementary School, and Alpha Gamma Delta sorority at High Point University. She
regularly volunteers as a juror in the annual high school mock trial competition in High Point. In 2017, Ms. Sams was
inducted into the High Point Literary League.
